Obituary for Leonora "Lee" Stach

Leonora (Lee) Stach, 93, of Jamesville, NY, died on March 13, 2021, at the Centers at St. Camillus, with family by her side. “Gramma Lee,” as she was known to her family and much of the Jamesville community, was a life-long resident of Jamesville, born in 1927 to Leopaldo and Amelia (Lorini) Marziale. Lee attended Jamesville High School and the Powelson Business Institute. She married John Stach in 1948 and they celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary prior to John’s passing in November 2020.

Lee went to work at Syracuse University in 1946 as a secretary in the Men’s Physical Education Department. She held several positions at SU through the years, taking some time off to raise her children, and returning to work part-time in 1957. Lee returned full-time in 1967 as Assistant Ticket Manager at Manley Field House, and in 1977 she was named the Ticket Manager. When the Carrier Dome opened in 1980, Lee became the first Ticket Manager at the Dome, and held that position until her retirement in 1993. Prior to the opening of the Dome, Lee walked the entire building counting seats to ensure that there was a seat for every ticket sold. Upon Lee’s retirement, Pat Campbell, Managing Director of the Dome at the time, said “Lee has worked with four Syracuse University chancellors, four athletic directors, six head football coaches, five head basketball coaches, hundreds of other head and assistant coaches, athletic department personnel, and thousands of Syracuse University athletes. It is fair to say that in her 43 years of serving the University’s multiple publics through event ticketing, she has touched untold millions of spectators and hundreds of fellow institutions of higher education throughout the country.”

Lee was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Jamesville where she served as a member of the Parish Council and the Altar Rosary Society. Upon the closing of St. Mary’s, Lee enthusiastically became a member of Holy Cross Parish in Dewitt. Lee was also a past member of the Jamesville Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Even in her retirement, Lee enjoyed supporting Syracuse University and its football, basketball, and lacrosse teams. She and John attended many sporting events over the years and continued to do so until just a few years ago. Her impact on the lives of her family, Syracuse University, and the Jamesville community will long be remembered.

Lee is predeceased by her husband John, her parents, and her sister, Lola Kaminski.

Lee is survived by her children, Kenneth (Patricia) Stach of Clay, Richard (Nina) Stach of Jamesville, and Ellen (Jerome) Pristash of Fayetteville; her sisters Terry (William) Middleton and Nina Charette, both of Jamesville; her grandchildren, Ashley (Preston) Shumpert, Justin (Jillian) Stach, Nicole (Jeffrey) March, Erica (Scott McInnis) Stach, Anna (Timothy) Galanaugh, Kerry (Brandon) LaDue, and Monica (Kevin) Whiston; 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Lee’s family would like to thank the caregivers from Constant Care 247 for their devotion to her at home during these last several months, and the entire staff at St. Camillus, particularly those working in the B Unit and KB Unit, for the wonderful care they provided to Lee and the entire family.
