Obituary for Luella R. Courtessis

On Tuesday, September 24th, Luella Courtessis, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital at age 91.

Born in Rochester, New York on March 4th, 1928 to Howard and Eileen Ricker, Luella was raised in Rochester, later working and living in Syracuse. She had a varied career, including a decade of publishing, working on government contracts, and working at Upstate Hospital, but her passion as a dental assistant became her focus and a source of many fond memories. After retiring, Luella began working for her daughter and at Westhill Golf Course in Camillus. She enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels.

Luella enjoyed traveling, especially long train rides, or just a pleasant day trip to Rochester for a burger by the lake. She especially loved Hawaii and Maine. Wherever she went, her often hilarious antics followed and her sense of humor and quick wit were ever-present.

Luella brought love and laughter into the lives of her two daughters and three grandchildren, as well as her siblings and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughters, Alexiana Wladis (Steven) and Mary Lou Rotella; her grandchildren, Michael Rotella, Joelle Rotella and Rachel Wladis; and her sister, Eleanor Bryan of Chicago, Illinois. She is also survived by several long-time friends, whose camaraderie she cherished.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 2nd from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A memorial service will begin at 3:15 pm following the calling hours at the funeral home.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Meals on Wheels.
