Obituary for Lura Anne Bitterman
Lura Anne (White) Bitterman, 87, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2019, surrounded by her loving family after courageously battling cancer.
She was born in Oswego, New York to Lura and John F. White. She graduated from Mosher Business College in Chicago, Illinois and attended the University of Illinois where she met the love of her life, her husband Arnold A. Bitterman and became a Navy wife. She was employed at ESM School District, St. Matthew’s, and Blessed Sacrament School as a teacher assistant and also worked for Kelly Services.
Anne loved to help others and especially to volunteer at St. Matthew’s Church and School. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Room Mother for all five of her children, Chairman of the Church Bazaar, Vice-President of the Altar and Rosary Club, President of the Mothers Club, Co-Treasurer of the Antique Show and taught religious education classes. Above all, her passion in life was raising her five children, and spending time with her family and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend and Nana to all.
She was predeceased by her brother, Francis Dowd White.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Arnold A. Bitterman; son, John (Christopher) of Miami, FL; daughters, Andrea (Joseph) Polcaro, Debra (David) Taylor, Betsy (Gary) Retchless of East Syracuse, and Charlotte (Don) Riedl of Cazenovia; grandchildren, Jason, Brian, Keith (Nicole), Joseph Polcaro, Corissa (Justin) Kohlbrenner, Michael (Lyndsey) Taylor, Kelly (Ashley) Retchless, Kevin (Danielle) Retchless, Laura (Michael) LaRosa, Janie (William) Snyder, Christopher (Christine) Riedl and Connor Riedl; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Franchesca, Sam, Tatumn, Braden, Beth, Andrew, Angelina, Hunter, Willson, Charli, Emma, and Duke.
Friends and family may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepps Corners Rd., Minoa. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at St. Matthew’s Church in East Syracuse. Burial will be in Onondaga Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
