Obituary

Marion Lewis Crawford, 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by   family on Monday, October 26, 2020, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born in Scranton, PA to the late John J. & Margaret Norton Lewis, Marion grew up in Scranton and graduated from Central High School. Marion graduated Marywood College where she played field hockey and basketball, then completed a Master of Science from SUNY Binghamton, NY.

Marion began teaching biology at Vestal High School where she met the love of her life, Ron, a physics teacher. Married in 1963, they started a family the following year.

Raising five children, Marion was an involved and supportive mother, adored by her husband and children. She was also a talented athlete, who became a professional racquetball instructor and nationally ranked player.

After Ron’s retirement, they spent many wonderful years enjoying each other’s company, playing golf, traveling and spending a great deal of time with their nine grandchildren in their roles as beloved Mum-Mum and Pop-Pop.

Following Ron’s passing, Marion continued to support the NY State Senior Games by running their racquetball activities. She practiced Tai Chi and enjoyed many Broadway shows. She closely followed the NY Mets, attending spring training and their World Series, and regularly traveled to Pittsburgh Steelers, Montreal Canadiens and Penn State football games. She also traveled to Paris, Jamaica, Scotland, Quebec, Colorado and more.

Marion is survived by her five children, Mark (Wendy) Crawford, Susan (Brad) Gruby, Ellen (Jasper) Crawford, Matthew (Angela) Crawford and Julie Ann (Dan) Crawford; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Connor, Joseph, Michael, Ryan, Laura, Kieran, Brendan and Camille; brother, John J. Lewis, Jr. and sister, Sally Ann Lewis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald; brother, Robert C. Lewis; and daughter-in-law, Eileen K. Crawford.

Family will be receiving guests with viewing hours on Friday, October 30 from 4pm – 7pm at Eaton-Tubbs, 7191 East Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY 13066. Private mass services will be held on Saturday.

Donations may be made in Marion’s name to the American Cancer Association.

To the Crawford Family-
We have wonderful memories of such a special lady! We fondly recall the former "Track 'n Racquet" days when Marion served as a role model athlete as well as an equally honorable human being. She possessed integrity and grace and always had a smile to share. She genuinely made this world a better place and may that thought provide some solace in the adjustment days ahead.
Rest in peace, Marion. We were fortunate to have known you and your family. God Bless.
Sincerely,
John & Martha White

So sorry to hear of Marion's passing. I knew Marion through your father, Ron, when we both worked for NEA/NY.
She was always so friendly and warm when we'd have a chance to meet at company gatherings. I'm sure she will be
missed by you all. Joni Kane
