Marjorie Ruth Thompson of Fayetteville, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday May 19, 2022.  She was surrounded in comfort and love by her daughters.  Born on November 2, 1923 in Toronto, Canada, she was the adopted daughter of the late Charles and Clara Ott of Worcester, MA. 

     She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. John H. Thompson.  When she was 17, John crashed an Eastern Star dance in Worcester and was quickly dazzled by her beauty.  They enjoyed a 47 year love affair that resulted in three daughters and a life filled with travel and adventure.  They lived in Colorado, Washington and Texas, finally settling in the Syracuse area in 1949 when John joined the faculty of the Maxwell School at Syracuse University.  In 1954, she and her family had the opportunity to live in Japan while John was a visiting professor at Kobe University.

     Marjorie served on the board of the Dunbar Center, worked with Youth Opportunities Unlimited and was a board member of the Syracuse University Women's Club.  She was a volunteer with the American Field Service for many years and served as a host mother.  Later in life she enjoyed a career as an antique dealer and appraiser.  She was a past president of the Onondaga Antique Dealers Association and a member of the Fayetteville-Manlius Antique Study Group.

     Marjorie was known as a formidable bridge player, participating in numerous couples and ladies clubs and continued to play well into her nineties.  She was a teacher and competitive player of the game, even earning a medal in the Empire State Senior Games.  We are forever grateful for our mother's zest for life. She never passed up an opportunity to travel, learn new things, and she sure could host one hell of a party!

     She is survived by her daughters, Janet (John) McLoughlin of Fayetteville, NY, Martha Thompson Cummings of Dewitt, NY,  and Natalie (William Paradies) Thompson of Aurora, NY.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shannon (Randall) Lee, Jason (Shalegh) Silkey, John (Jenn) Silkey, MacLaren (Rochelle) Cummings, Katherine (Gustavo) Motta, Zane Paradies and Cole Paradies.  She was also blessed with her great grandchildren, Hannah and Jackson Lee, Thompson Silkey, Graydon, Kennedy and Anderson Cummings. 

     The family would like to thank the staff at the Nottingham Borer Memory Care Center, Crouse Hospital 4 North and her primary physician, Dr. Joseph Barry. 

     Marjorie's wishes were that there would be no calling hours or funeral services, but a hope that you will all raise a glass to her wonderful 98 years.  Her family will celebrate her life by scattering her ashes in the Atlantic Ocean, her most favorite place on earth.
