Obituary for Maryann Gesel
Maryann Gesel “Big Mom”, 83, of Penn Yan, passed away May 12th in the loving care of the Syracuse Home Staff (Unit 2). Maryann was the cherished wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother of the Gesel tribe.
In life Big Mom enjoyed a good book, Big Dad’s pranks, live music and the hunt of a great bargain. Big Mom loved a good joke, but couldn’t tell one to save her life. She retired from the Penn Yan Post Office after 20 years of service. Big Mom traveled in earnest. Her suitcase always packed for another adventure.
Maryann is predeceased by her parents, Jim and Trudy; and husband of 47 years, Big Dad (Jim). She is survived by her children, Roseanne (Rob), Donna, John and Kerry; grandchildren, Benjamin, Cullen and Mia; great-granddaughter, Lucy; sisters and cousins sprinkled throughout the US.
A memorial Mass celebrating her life will be 10:00 am Wednesday, May 19th at St. Michael’s Church, 312 Liberty St., Penn Yan. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
