Obituary for Michael A. Spader

Michael Spader, 73, of Jamesville, passed away on March 21, 2020, at The Centers for St. Camillus after battling cancer for 20 years. He was the husband of Margaret Spader. They shared 34 years of marriage together.

Born on January 7, 1947 and raised in Penn Yann, he was the son of Alvin and Eunice Spader. He gradated the Penn Yan Academy and earned a degree in finance from Syracuse University. He started his career working for the Small Business Administration before taking a position with Key Bank. He continued in banking and loan management for the duration of his career.

Besides his interest in money matters, he spent his free time swimming, boating, camping and traveling with his family. He used to say, “traveling makes you more interesting to yourself.” The family routinely gathered at the beaches in Hilton Head, SC, Outer Banks, NC, and Mexico creating many special memories. Mike remained active with many home improvement and woodworking projects including cabinets and tables. In 2003, he made three cherry bassinets to welcome three grandchildren born that year. Mike enjoyed being around people and had a great sense of humor.

His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Emily and granddaughter Amanda; son Steven and grandchildren Gabe and Nicholas; stepson Ed and his wife Nicole; stepdaughter Donna and her husband Marko with grandchildren Michael, Ella and Adam; stepdaughter Jennifer and her husband Joshua with grandchildren Andrew and Elizabeth; and his brother David and sister Judith.

Due to the current circumstances, there will be no memorial service at this time. Those wishing to make gestures of condolence, please send donations to The Centers at St. Camillus in Syracuse.
