Michael K. Wojnovich, 53, of Manlius passed away at Upstate Hospital on Wednesday after a battle with stage 4 lung cancer. Michael leaves behind his wife Bridget of 25 years and three daughters; Sophia, Olivia and Isabella. He is also survived by his mom Janet, brothers James, Kevin, Scott and Matt as well as his sister Wendy.
Mike’s love for his three daughters and three dogs (not necessarily in that order during the teen years) is what he will truly be remembered for. His intellect and sarcastic wit come in a close second.
Some of Mike’s most cherished pastimes were hiking the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, going to concerts at the Westcott Theater, tinkering with his “antique” Porsche in the garage, golfing at Drumlins, playing in a $10 poker tournament at the Turning Stone (but only if he had a coupon), and listening to the Grateful Dead.
Anyone who knows Mike was acutely aware of his love of all things food. He could never turn down a burrito, a bowl of cheese puffs, a handful of Swedish fish, a plate of ridiculously hot wings, a flight of craft beers, or the bulk candy aisle (sometimes he treated it like a free buffet). Sorry Wegmans!
Michael earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from RIT where he played lacrosse and his MBA from Syracuse University, and he took pride in being a lifelong learner. His wife, daughters and extended family will greatly miss his hysterical sense of humor, the creative games he made up for holiday get-togethers, his generosity, compassion for others, and the way he never thought his cargo pants went out of style.
There are no calling hours or services. A celebration of Michael’s life is being planned for the spring. For now, in the words of Jerry Garcia, “Like the morning sun you come and like the wind you go. Ain’t no time to hate, barely time to wait. What I want to know is where does the time go?”
