Nancy Godbold, 97, died peacefully with her daughter by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised her family in Queens, NY, moved with her husband to Centerport, Long Island before moving to Syracuse in 1995.

Nancy’s very full life included working as a hairdresser on Fifth Avenue, marrying Elmer, the love of her life, spending family summers on Long Island, actively participating in her churches’ social and charitable groups, and wintering in Long Boat Key, Florida. She was mentally sharp right up to the end - reading, “Facebook”-ing, following the stock market and playing bridge for many years. She was always on the move, walking and exercising, resisting as long as she could those markers of aging like canes, walkers, and the like. She loved entertaining in her home and socializing with acquaintances and many longtime friends throughout her life. Most of all she treasured her family, lighting with smiles and a twinkle in her eyes in the presence of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Our dear “Mom”, “Grandma Nancy”, and “Aunt Nancy” will be sorely missed.

Nancy is survived by children, Karen (Michael) Burns and Glenn (Julie) Godbold; grandchildren, Colin Burns and Haley Godbold; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Elmer Godbold; sister, Julia Swier; and brother, Nicholas Durniak.

A memorial service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held at Manlius United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm on Thursday, July 25th. The family will receive friends and family at the church beginning at 2:00 pm before the service.

Contributions may be made to Jowonio School, 3049 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13224; Manlius United Methodist Church, 111 Wesley St., Manlius, NY 13104; Centerport United Methodist Church, 97 Little Neck Rd., Centerport, NY 11721; or a charity of your choice.

I'm just seeing this and I'm so sad. Sorry I missed the services. I met Nancy at Regency Towers. An employee there introduced me to her, I loved her right away! She use to call me and ask me to come down to her apartment and show her how to post pictures on Facebook with her new IPad. I thought that was so awesome!!!! We would sit and have a drink and chat. I was only there for a few years then I was off to Florida. She mentioned she was a snowbird of Florida. We always kept in touch via email. I came back to visit in March and kept telling myself to get a hold of her and go visit, I am so saddened that I didn't. I will miss you my dear friend. RIP and I'll see you again one day!
