Obituary for Nanda H. M. Francken Weeks

Nanda Weeks, of Fayetteville, NY, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2022 at home with her daughter by her side.

Nanda was born November 28, 1940 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands to the late Adrianus and Maria Hendrika (Koeberg) Francken.  Nanda graduated with a degree in Social Geography and History from the University of Amsterdam.  Nanda met the love of her life, Jim, while he was leading Syracuse University’s College of Law Summer Abroad Program in Amsterdam.  The two became inseparable that summer and Nanda relocated to the United States with Jim, where they eventually married and started a family in Syracuse, NY.

Nanda joined and became a leader in the International Wives Club at Syracuse University, where she met many lifelong friends.  Nanda was employed by the University for many years in The Division of International Programs Abroad (DIPA). In later years she enjoyed working at Syracuse Selections Clothing store, where she loved talking with her coworkers and customers, many of which became close friends.

Nanda loved to socialize, hosting and attending many parties throughout the years, where her uncanny gift of gab was on full display! She enjoyed summer vacations with her family at Lake Umbagog, NH, and in later years, on Martha’s Vineyard.  Nanda loved reading, puzzles, board games, hiking, and anything outdoors.

She travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, including returning home each year to The Netherlands to see her family and close friends, something that she cherished. Oma’s greatest joy and the highlight of her life was spending time with her grandchildren, watching them grow and sharing stories together.

Surviving are her daughter, Claire (Mark) Conroy of Syracuse; beloved granddaughters, Mackenzie and Vivien; brother, Ronald (Ellen) of The Netherlands and their children.  In addition to her parents, Nanda was predeceased by her husband, James Weeks.

Relatives and friends may call Monday, June 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Eaton Tubbs Funeral Home, 7191 E Genesee St, Fayetteville, NY 13066.  Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
