Obituary for Paul Fleischmann

Paul Fleischmann, 83, passed away at Francis House in Syracuse, NY on January 18, 2021 after a short illness. He was born October 14, 1937 in Utica, NY, the son of J. Dudley and Frances Fleischmann. Paul was married to Janice Jones in Deansboro, NY on June 7, 1958. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary in 2020.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Frank Fleischmann, Vail (Edith) Fleischmann; and brother-in-law, Michael Fuks.

Paul is survived by his wife, Janice of East Syracuse, NY; daughter, Laura (Ted) Rozelsky of Cortland, NY; sister, Ann (Kenneth) Ingersoll of Waterville, NY; sister-in-law, Marlene Fuks of Mesa, AZ; two nieces, a grand-niece, three grand-nephews, cousins, and many good friends.

Paul graduated from Waterville High School in 1955. He trained and served as a Draftsman and Designer at General Electric in Utica, NY, followed by 35 years with Link Simulation in Binghamton, NY. His career as a Mechanical Engineer with Link gave him the opportunity to work with the Apollo Space Program, the Space Shuttle, and many other aviation projects. He retired from Raytheon Corp in Texas in 1999 and returned to his home state of New York.

In retirement, Paul was an active member and served on the board of the Central New York PC Users Group and the Central New York Genealogy Society. He also taught Genealogy workshops. In addition, he led a weekly discussion group at the Oaks at Menorah Park in Syracuse, NY for several years.

Paul was a lifelong learner and avid reader, who enjoyed sharing “little known facts of little interest” with friends and family. He loved working with computers, watching hockey (go NY Rangers!) and exploring anything related to cars and aviation. Indeed, he could identify the make, model and year of a vintage automobile with a glance at its bumper, grill or headlight. Paul loved a good conversation and had a delightfully quirky sense of humor.

Paul took COVID-19 prevention very seriously. In that spirit, there will be no calling hours or services. The family will have a private memorial in the spring.
