Obituary for Renee Lina Meredith

Renee Lina Meredith, 68, passed away February 4, 2022 peacefully at home with family to comfort her.  She was born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey on February 8, 1953 to the late Lt. Col. Horace W. Meredith (known in the Syracuse area as Meteorologist “Stormy” Meredith from Channel 9 News) and the now 100-year-old Mildred Lenko Meredith of North Syracuse.  Renee graduated from Cicero High School in 1971 and from Cornell University in 1975.  She worked as a Registered Dietitian in New York City and at Crouse Hospital.  Rene was honored as New York State Young Dietician of the Year.

Renee always put everyone else’s needs above her own, and was often described as “the best-looking person in the room” even while going through cancer treatments.  She led an active life with many hobbies including skiing, golf, boating, traveling, hosting parties, cooking, gardening, sewing her own clothes, knitting beautiful baby blankets, crocheting, hanging out on the beach at Lake Ontario, and taking long walks in the neighborhood and at Green Lakes State Park with friends and family.  Her trips to Florida with girlfriends who call themselves “The Committee” were always a great time!

Renee made and maintained many close friendships throughout her life and appreciated them all, including Dr. Cindy and Dr. Carl Devore, and the Sportelli family.  Renee enjoyed working at Cazenovia Jewelry the past few years and appreciated the friendship of her caring boss, Ralph Monforte.  She especially wished to thank Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY and her oncologist, Dr. Anthony Scalzo, for navigating her course through fourteen years in her courageous battle against metastatic lobular breast cancer.  Renee’s family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice for guiding us in her last two weeks so she could remain at home.

The most important people in Renee’s life are her two successful sons, Christopher (Melanie) Davin and Jeremy A. Davin, and her adorable young grandsons, Oliver Benjamin Davin (2 ½years old) and Elliot Carter Davin (3 ½ weeks old), all living in sunny California.  Renee had a fantastic trip this past November to spend quality time with them in South Pasadena.  Renee is also survived by her two loving sisters, Joyce M. Meredith and Corrine (Joseph) Cummiskey, as well as her much loved nephew, Ryan (Kirsten) Cummiskey.

In lieu of a funeral, Celebration of Life will be planned for the Spring.  Burial will be in the Jamesville Walnut Grove Cemetery.  Thank you to Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel of Schepp Family Funeral Homes for their consideration.
