Obituary for Ruth Maria Hamerski

 

     Ruth Maria Hamerski, 90, of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Friday April 22 after a brief illness. Ruth was born October 8, 1931, in Crailsheim, Germany to Robert and Frida (Buehler) Winker.  After growing up in Spaichingen, Germany, she immigrated to the United States in 1951, joining her extended family in Detroit, Michigan.  She worked as a seamstress and personal assistant, and traveled extensively in the United States and Europe for her work. 

     In 1958, she met and married the love of her life, Jan Hamerski, and they shared 54 years together. Jan and Ruth were the proud parents of daughter, Karen Brogan and son, Dr. Michael Hamerski.

     Over the years, Ruth enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, sewing, and baking, especially German Christmas cookies and her famous Stollen! She enjoyed visiting with friends, spending time with her grandchildren, and being involved in her church community. 

     Ruth is survived by her daughter, Karen (John) Brogan; grandsons, Peter (Rebecca) Brogan, Thomas Brogan (Laura Pawlowski), and Joseph Brogan; granddaughter, Heather (William) Hamerski Stoudemire; and great-grandsons, Michael and William Stoudemire. She was predeceased by her son, Dr. Michael R. Hamerski; husband, Jan; and sister, Doris Schmigiel.

     Family and friends are invited to call 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday, May 7 at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A brief service at 12 pm will be followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse.
