Sean C. Huckins, 61, of Syracuse, NY, passed away with dignity at home on Friday, January 13, 2023, after a 6-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on January 28, 1961 in Sicily, Italy.

     Sean had a Bachelor of Industrial Design from Syracuse University, an MS in Biomedical Engineering from SUNY, University at Buffalo, and was working on his dissertation to complete his PhD in Mapping Sciences at SUNY ESF. He worked for 30 years as a research scientist in the Department of Neurosurgery, SUNY Upstate Medical University.

     He was happiest spending time with his family, friends, and his beloved black lab, Kona. Sean loved meeting people, telling stories and jokes, and had a unique ability to combine his artistic talent with his love of science. He also enjoyed cooking, hiking, music, and spending time at their house on Keuka Lake.

     Sean was predeceased by his father, Robert M. Huckins, Sr. in 1987 and his mother Patricia O. Huckins in 2022. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Karen A. Doherty; daughters Yasmina C. Huckins of Brooklyn, NY, Emma M. Huckins of Pittsburgh, PA, and Karlie M. Huckins of Syracuse, NY; sister, Susan H. (Patrick) Campbell of Denver, CO; brothers, Robert M. Huckins, Jr. of Ruidoso Downs, NM, and Malcolm O. Huckins of Chattanooga, TN; 13 nieces and nephews and several cousins.

     Calling hours will be 10 am – noon on Saturday, January 21 at Schepp Family Funeral Home 7191 E Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY 13066, followed by a Celebration of Life from 12:30 – 3:30 at Drumlins Country Club, 800 Nottingham Rd, Syracuse, NY  13224.
