Sheila M. Larkin, 83, of Pompey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday evening, June 11, 2019.

She was the daughter of Irish immigrants who grew up in Queens Village with her sister Deirdre in a home that was filled with visiting family and local friends. She learned to ride in Long Island and, after to moving with her husband Don to Pompey, she kept her own horses and imported and trained Connemara Ponies. She traveled regularly to Ireland with Don and family until she was in her seventies. She loved skiing and golf and cherished the quiet morning hours tending her gardens or working in the barn. She was a cheerful soul with many friends, who greeted everyone with a kind word and a smile. She was a voracious reader who loved to write her own poetry, often for a special occasion or birthday. Most of all, she was a devoted wife and loving mom and nana, who wanted more for her family than she ever did for herself. She will be missed greatly by the many who were lucky enough to know her.

Sheila was an assistant marketing director at Toggenburg Ski Center for over 20 years. She was a board member of the Toggenburg Race Association and Fabius-Pompey Sports Boosters.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Donald Larkin; four sons, Christopher (Sheila) Larkin, Terence (Debora) Larkin, Sean Larkin and Matthew (Tricia) Larkin; daughter, Katie Gordon; twelve grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Friday, June 14, from 4 to 7pm at he Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 15, at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, 7386 Academy Street, Pompey. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Pompey.

I'm very sorry for the loss of Sheila. She was my mom's maid of honor and they were very good friends in their younger days. Sheila was also my godmother. My mother (Marion McCabe Dorning) was just talking about her the other week and I decided to have a look online just so happened to come across this sad news. Please pass the condolences of all of my family on to all the Larkins. Jack Dorning
