Obituary for Shirley Y. Reif
Shirley Y. Reif, 94, passed away on November 23 at The Centers at St. Camillus in Syracuse.
Shirley was born in Cortland, New York, and lived in Manlius for 55 years. She graduated from SUNY Cortland and was an elementary school teacher for 25 years, retiring from Bolivar Road Elementary in Chittenango in 1987.
She was a communicant of St. Ann’s Parish in Manlius. Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother and aunt and most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed traveling.
She is predeceased by her husband Richard Reif, daughter Marjorie Reif, and daughter-in-law, Margaret Reif.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Ellen (Michael) Frith of Plainwell, MI; sons, Thomas Reif of Shaftsbury, VT, Edward (Marilynn) Reif of Pittsford, NY, Stephen (Nancy) Reif of Venice, FL, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to niece Jane Jenny for her loving care during Shirley’s last months.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 29, at 11am at St. Ann’s Church, 104 Academy St., Manlius. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cortland at the convenience of the family.
