Obituary for Susan H. Beisler

Susan H. Beisler, 71, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on June 7, 2019. Susan was born on July 2, 1947, in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Taylor A. and Julie Keller Harter. She was educated in Hannibal, NY and attended St. Lawrence University where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, graduating in 1969 with a BS in Psychology. She met her loving and devoted husband, David, while at St. Lawrence. After obtaining her Masters in Education from SUNY Cortland in 1970, she began her teaching career at New Lebanon Elementary School in Greenwich, CT. She then taught for a year at Windcrest Elementary School in San Antonio, TX. Upon her return to NY she obtained a teaching position with the Syracuse City School District in 1974 and remained with the district, teaching in special education, until her retirement in June 2008. Susan was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Susan's first love was always her family. She and David raised three beautiful daughters. While the girls were growing up she was continuously offering her time and talents to their many activities - from leading a Girl Scout troop to chaperoning a band trip to volunteering for the Backstage Backers. Following the birth of her first grandchild she became lovingly known as Mimi. You could often find her in the kitchen baking treats for her family, reading a good book, or knitting, crocheting or crafting a special project for a loved one.

Susan and David have split their time between their homes in Jamesville, NY and Rangeley, ME for nearly forty years. She enjoyed volunteering her time at St. David's Church in Fayetteville, NY and the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley, ME. During the most recent summer months she relished sitting in an Adirondack chair at her home in Maine and watching her grandchildren play in the lake. In 2017 Susan received a kidney transplant from a living donor, Joanna Coan, to whom Susan and her family will be forever grateful.

Susan is survived by her husband of 48 years, David; daughters, Julie (Jason) Lee of Dunwoody, GA, Katherine (Michael) Pisani of Chester, NH and Sarah (Matthew) Lentner of Penfield, NY; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christian and Nicholas Lee and Audrey and Charlotte Pisani; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Friday, June 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Newell-Fay Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Road, Manlius. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, at St. David's Episcopal Church, 14 Jamar Drive, Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's memory may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation: www.amyloidosis.org.

Susan was tireless with her generosity, incredibly selfless, and always put the needs of others before her own. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
