Obituary for Timothy James Steele

Timothy James “TJ” Steele, 35, of Jamesville, NY passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at his home with his beloved dog Coda at his side. Born September 8, 1984 in Fort Pierce, Florida, he was, and always will be, the firstborn son of James and Lisa Steele.

TJ graduated LaFayette Central High School in 2002. In 2018 he earned an Associate in Applied Science degree from Onondaga Community College, where he studied electrical technology. He was employed as an engineer at Marquardt Switches in Cazenovia, NY.

TJ had a great love of electronics, technology and the sciences, especially astronomy, that started when he was a little boy. He learned how to solder in his dad’s workshop when he was 12 and then never stopped taking things apart and fixing them. TJ began stargazing in the back yard as a toddler. If there was a clear night, he was probably out looking up.

He enjoyed music and was a talented self-taught musician. Friends and family will greatly miss hearing his keyboarding and piano playing skills. He found peace hiking in the woods with Coda and frequented many local parks including Clark’s Reservation State Park.

TJ was pre-deceased by his Grandfather Harry, Grandmother Bertha, Aunt Rebecca (Becky), and Grandfather Ronald.

He is survived by his parents James and Lisa Steele, sister Tiffany Skinner, brother Jeremy Steele (Catherine), niece Rebecca (Becca), all of Manlius, NY, Grandma Joyce Moore, of Ft. Pierce, FL, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

“We will love you forever with all our hearts, and will miss you always.”

Family and friends may join us for calling hours and a celebration of life from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 22nd at Oran Community Church, 8560 Cazenovia Rd, Manlius NY 13104. A private burial service will be held later in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Helping Hounds, 7268 Caswell Avenue, North Syracuse, NY 13202, The Planetary Society (https://www.planetary.org/about/), or any science or astronomy club of your choosing.
