Obituary for Victoria R. Underwood

 

    Victoria R. Underwood passed away with her loving family by her side on Friday in Syracuse, New York following a heroic battle with a neurological disease.

   Victoria was born in Rochester, New York and lived her adult years in DeWitt, Fayetteville and Cazenovia Lake. Victoria graduated from Eastridge High School in Rochester and Le Moyne College. Victoria was known for her warm smile that put people at ease, her creativity and sense of humor, her energetic spirit, her inner and outer beauty, her non-judgmental caring nature, and her poetic and insightful commentary. Victoria authored several books including a mystery thriller and collections of short stories and was a weekly columnist for the local newspaper. Victoria was a pre-school director and teacher, and in later years, a literacy volunteer and career counselor.

   Victoria loved animals and the outdoors. Victoria was a long-time runner and yoga practitioner. Victoria enjoyed cooking and baking, travel and spending time in the Adirondacks and at Cazenovia Lake. Victoria’s children and family were the center of her life. She always had time to listen and help. Victoria was predeceased by her parents Harry and Isabella Samuel of Rochester and her brother Peter Samuel also of Rochester.

    Victoria is survived by her husband of 51 years, Emerson “Buzz”, and her children, Derek (Jennifer) of Manlius, Nicole (Robert) Tanchak of Jamesville and Michael (Tess) of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Kingston, Ava, Dean, Cole and Michelle. Victoria is also survived by her sister, Penny (Barry) Zeplowitz of Williamsville, New York as well as many nieces and nephews.

    Victoria will always be loved and will always be with us.
