William A. “Bill” LaManche, 71, of East Syracuse died at home. He was born in Syracuse and was a 1965 graduate of East Syracuse High School and attended Syracuse University School of Management. He served in the Army Reserve for six years and was discharged as Sergeant.
He had a lengthy career in manufacturing and manufacturing management starting with 20 years at Bristol Myers and retired as Plant Manager from McIntosh Box and Pallet.
He served many years as a volunteer and civic involvement, including United Way, Boy Scouts, Little League, Jaycees, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, NY State Bass Federation and most recently a member of the Board of Directors of the Onondaga County Anglers Association and delegate to Onondaga County Federation of Sportsman’s Clubs. He was a member of the NY Bow Hunters and the Onondaga County Civil War Round Table. He was an avid boater, hunter and fisherman. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Minoa.
Predeceased by parents, William and Dorothy (Weyer) LaManche; sister, Margaret Small; brother, Kenneth LaManche; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Maloney. Also, his cherished Golden Labrador, Houston.
Survived by wife, Cheryl (Sternberg/Elmer); children - daughter, Patricia Auger of Kirkville and her children, Patrick and Hannah Owens; Dawn LaManche (Jason Woodruff) and his children, Caleb and Audrey of Manlius; son, Randall (Kristy) LaManche and their daughters, Kendall and Ashlyn of Marcellus; stepson, Colin Elmer (Mary Schneider) of Bridgeport and their daughters, Autumn and Summer; sisters, Martha Maloney of Pulaski and Dorothy (James) Doane of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill will always be remembered for his unique sense of humor. He was a remarkable person, fantastic neighbor and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Well loved by all.
Family and friends may call from 5-8 pm on Thursday, August 8 at R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel 6530 Schepp’s Corners Rd., Minoa. The Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 am on Friday at St. Mary’s Church, 401 N. Main St., Minoa. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Minoa.
