William Michael Hogan, of Daytona Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, January 21. Born May 28, 1952 in Syracuse, Michael was the son of the late William Charles Hogan and Rosemary Waidele Hogan Winkert.
Michael graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School and St. Bonaventure University with a degree in Sociology. Following his graduation from college, Michael’s passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles led him to Daytona Beach, FL, where he worked in both the newspaper and the travel and tourism industries. Michael enjoyed spending time rebuilding his vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycle and transforming a 1973 vintage Airstream, as well as developing fine carpentry skills. He was a collector of anything and everything that was Harley-Davidson. As a teenager, Michael joined a rock band and continued his love of music and guitar playing throughout his life. Michael was proud of his Irish heritage, cherishing family memories, memorabilia and family get-togethers in St. Augustine, FL. He took delight in playful and friendly teasing with his nieces and nephews in their formative years. Michael enjoyed long talks about politics, religion, philosophy and current events. Another important part of Michael’s life was his love for animals, particularly his dog, Rocky.
Michael is survived by his sisters, Melanie Hogan Chapman of Parish, NY (David) and Lisa Hogan of Syracuse, NY (Tom Orcutt); his brother, Martin Hogan of Salt Lake City, Utah; his step-brother, Peter Winkert (Karen), and step-sister, Katherine Winkert, both of Cazenovia, NY; his aunt and uncle, Joan Waidele Lugthart and Dr. Garrit J. Lugthart of Manlius, NY; his aunt, Nancy Hogan, of Fayetteville, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews.
Calling hours will be at the Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville on Saturday, February 20, at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt.
