Obituary for Thomas Rene Sommers

Thomas R. Sommers, 48, of Manlius passed away on Tuesday, May 12 at Francis House, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom was born on June 23, 1966 in Lyncourt, the son of Frank and Joan Sommers.
Tom graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and Nazareth College, Rochester, New York. He was employed as a sales executive for W.B. Mason Inc. for 2 years. He previously worked at Village Office Supply for 16 years. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville, where he was on the Parish Council. He was an active member of the Fayetteville-Manlius Little League, where he was a board member as well as a long time coach and volunteer.
(Survivors): He was a proud and loving husband and son to his wife Mary (Markert), their children, Colin, Ellie, Jack, Meredith and his mother Joan; a dedicated brother to Michael Sommers, Anne Sommers, John (Sharon) Sommers, Daniel Sommers, Stephen (Linda) Sommers, Mary (Joe) Carello, and Frank (Christin) Sommers; a devoted brother-in-law to Bob and Nancy Markert, Kathy & Terry Langan, Dan Markert, Joanne Markert & Dan Robbino and Gene Markert and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his father Frank in 2009 and his in-laws Joan and Albert Markert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Parish, 400 Salt Springs Street, Fayetteville, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery . Friends are invited to call from 4-7 PM on Thursday, May 14 and 4-7 PM on Friday, May 15 at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St, Fayetteville.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Tom’s name is asked to consider contributing to the Sommers Family Education Fund using http://gofundme.com/thesommersfamily or to Immaculate Conception School, 400 Salt Springs St, Fayetteville, NY 13066.
