Obituary for Ruth H. Zamory

Ruth Harding Zamory, 86, of Chittenango died August 2, 2015, after a brief illness.
Always happy and full of life, Ruth lived most of her life in the Syracuse area. Like many seniors, she could be blatantly honest, but she was a sweetheart.
Born April 17, 1929, in Syracuse, Ruth was the daughter of Reginald and Florence (Zuill) Harding. Her grandfather was the co-founder of the Easy Washer Company of Syracuse, an early and award-winning washing machine.
Ruth grew up in Fayetteville with her younger brother Paul and graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1947. She attended Alfred University, where she studied industrial ceramic design and met her first husband, Philip Gregory (d. 1992) of Alfred, New York. They married in 1951 and moved to Geneva, where their daughter, Barbara, was born in 1954.
In addition to taking care of her family and home, Ruth held a variety of positions with a number of firms, including the federal government in Rochester; Western New York Animal Resources in Webster and Ontario; and the Singer Company and Coopers Drapery Company of Syracuse. She was a talented seamstress, and sewed many dresses for her young daughter. The garments were so beautiful that Barbara’s grade-school teachers searched the collars for tags, finding it difficult to believe they were handmade.
In 1975 Ruth married Edward Zamory Jr. The couple lived in Lyndon for 20 years before moving to Chittenango, where they built the house of Ruth’s dreams out in the country. The retired couple lived quietly, occasionally participating in Chittenango’s Oz Fest parade, riding in Ed’s vintage Pontiac.
Ed died in 2001 and Ruth remained in her home, welcoming family and friends until health issues required outside nursing care.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Gregory (Stephen Bobbitt) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother, Paul (Lorna) Harding of East Syracuse; nephew, James (Rebekah) Harding of Coventry, Connecticut; niece, Ann (Chris) Grippin of Ithaca; great nieces and nephews Emily, Ross, Allison and Jacob Grippin, all of Ithaca; and sister-in-law Ann Gregory (Barry) Muhs of Rochester.
No services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth Zamory’s memory can be made to a charity of choice.
