Obituary for Robert F. Allen

Robert F. Allen, 91. of Fayetteville, died on Tuesday. Bob was born on October 7, 1923 in Syracuse and was the son of the late Fay O. and Ruth Gorman Allen. He graduated from Mamaroneck High School in Westchester County.
In 1945 Bob Allen, a 21 year old Princeton University graduate, took a student engineering job with the Carrier Corporation. He drove a panel truck to service calls. In 1987, he retired from Carrier as Chairman and Chief Executive officer.
He served as a director of numerous corporate organizations, including Oneida Limited, Chase Lincoln Bank, Manufactures Association of CNY, and as chairman of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce. Bob was a trustee of LeMoyne College (Chairman), Syracuse University (Emeritus), Community General Hospital, SUNY Upstate Medical Center and WCNY Public Broadcasting.
He was also active with many other government and charitable organizations, including the Business Council of New York State, the United States Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board, Literacy Volunteers of America, United Way of Central New York, Syracuse Symphony and Syracuse Opera.
Bob was a longtime member of the Princeton Club of New York City, Onondaga Golf and Country Club and the Century Club of Syracuse.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Vivian Allen in 2013 and infant daughter, Mary.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Richard Jenkins) Allen of Fayetteville, Joan Allen of Fayetteville, Barbara (Stephen) Lindenmayer of Manlius, Thomas Allen of San Diego, CA and Robert (Heidi) Allen of Vernon; and grandchildren, Sarah and Anna Jenkins, Stacey and Monica Lindenmayer and Kimberly and Jason Allen.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, August 15th from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville. The funeral Mass will follow the calling hour. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Fayetteville.
