Obituary for Curly Bertrand

Curly (Donald E.) Bertrand, 90, of Syracuse passed away at his home. He was a graduate of LeMoyne College. He served as a Pharmacist’s Mate in the Navy during WWII. He and his wife Jeanne Marie were long time proprietors of Bertrand’s of Tully Ski Shop. He retired as co-owner of Commercial Door Company. Curly played bass in the Mario DeSantis Band; was a member and past president of the Cortland Antique Car Club, member of Camillus Miata Club. He also belonged to the Jazz Appreciation Society, Tully Chamber of Commerce, Optimist Club and Onondaga Ski Club.
Curly was a lifelong ski enthusiast who developed many enduring friendships throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
His later years were spent happily enjoying family, friends, jazz and his Miata, but most importantly his complete dedication to his wife.
He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Harriet Bertrand and his brother, Dr. John Bertrand.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanne Marie; children, Tom (Rita) of Manlius, Jim “Birdy” (Kathy McConnell) of Preble, Patti (Michael) Ferguson of Evergreen, CO, Gail (Frank) O’Donnell of Truxton and Mick of Saratoga; grandchildren, Celia Ferguson, Ryan, Casey and Bailey O’Donnell, Karl, Michaela, Nicole and Kierra Bertrand; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:15 am Monday at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel and 11:00 am at Holy Family Church in Fairmount. Burial with military honors will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.
