Robert J. Connell, 63, of Fayetteville, NY passed away Tuesday. He was born in Eau Claire, WI, the son of James and Agnes Connell. Robert graduated from Eau Claire University and recieved his Masters degree from Memphis State. Robert earned degrees in violin and viola performance and also studied conducting at Michigan State with Frederick Fennell.
He was a member of the Louisville Orchestra and performed in Las Vegas with stars like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. He later was the Orchestra Director for Cicero North Syracuse High School for 27 years. Robert was the director of the Auburn Chamber Orchestra and the Onondaga Civic Orchestra for ten years. Robert was manager and leader of Candlelight Music and a free-lance musician.
He performed in thousands of weddings, funerals and recitals in the Central New York area. His spirit lives on in the hearts of the countless students in whom he instilled a great love of music. Robert loved to perform on his violin.
Robert enjoyed attending classes at the Roseheart Center. He also loved his three dogs, the outdoors and working in his yard.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Janice Carr; brothers, Thomas (Linda) Connell, Charles (Char) Connell, John Connell, Richard (Judy) Connell; and nieces, Emmie and Annie Connell.
There will be a concert and life celebration in Bob’s memory that will be scheduled at a later date.
