Obituary for Joseph Michael Burns Jr.

Joseph M. Burns, Jr., 81, of Syracuse and more recently Bridgeport passed away peacefully. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Cathedral High School in 1952 and the University of Notre Dame in 1956 where he participated in the ROTC program and following served in the Army. Joe was a Civil Engineer and owner of Joseph M. Burns Consulting Engineers. He previously was partner of Snyder & Burns Engineers. After retirement he worked for King & King Architects.
He was a 58 year member of the Onondaga Golf & Country Club and an avid golfer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Michael and Elizabeth Anderson Burns and son, Joseph Michael Burns III.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Johanne; children, Allison (JMB III) Burns , Katie (Erik) Cleland, Betsy (Michael) Vavonese, Meg (Mark) Kastner, James M. Burns and Annie (Bob) Baggett; 6 grandsons; 7 granddaughters; 3 1/2 great-grandchildren; and siblings, David (Mary) Burns, Thomas (Mary) Burns; and Mary Bet (CJ) Horan.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, April 14th at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 13th at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.
