Obituary for Dorothy L. Carney

Dorothy Leigh “Dodie” Carney, 82, of East Syracuse, passed away Thursday morning, April 14, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Kirkville on December 7, 1933, she was the daughter of Ernest and Sarah Leigh. Dorothy held several positions, most important was raising her six children and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Minoa and belonged to several senior center card clubs.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Charles E. Carney and son, Richard Carney. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Brett) Lance and Charleen (Don Chappell) Gilbert; three sons, Paul (Linda Grant) Carney, Pat (Jennifer McCartney) Carney and Raymond Carney; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Walters and Jane Peterson; brother, Donald (Janet) Leigh; sister-in-law, Beverly Petterelli; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 10-11 am Monday, April 18th at St. Mary’s Church, 401 N. Main St., Minoa. The funeral Mass will follow the calling hour. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Minoa.
