Condolence: I was lucky enough to know Pat at Bucknell and always enjoyed seeing him at the Class of 1981 reunions over the years. He was so kind, smart and talented, and would light up a room with his presence. I always felt more joyful after a conversation with Pat. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family and circle of friends.

Condolence: So what was it that made Pat Pedro so exceptional, so unique? I asked myself that question all weekend, partly because I sought an antidote to my sorrow and partly because I wanted to hold onto the essence of Pat. The latter is like trying to hold a rainbow in your hand.

Pat’s humility, optimism, brilliance, love of the arts, devotion to family, and tenacious spirit are honorable and exquisite qualities. However, what set him apart in my life was all that and one more quality: his meekness, his strength under control. Unlike many, he did not attempt to be center stage or keep the spotlight on himself but rather he shared the limelight by being the quintessential supporting actor and bringing the best out of others by being fully himself. He illuminated our lives by sharing his. He patiently added clarity to complex situations, allowing us to see the forest through the trees. He lovingly encouraged us to take the dive of trust, in order to find that in the end truth wins and faith supports, even in the most challenging of circumstances.

I’ve known Pat since we were representatives in our high school student council, and I was blessed when our paths crossed again in Syracuse. As SU’s legal counsel in experiential learning, he stood by me through a challenging career chapter and his legal expertise girded me through a personal trial. Though Pat’s many accomplishments were impressive, I believe his greatest act was his closing role. ALS was a cold bucket of ice water, but it never quenched Pat’s Christian spirit.
He modeled for us all how to die with dignity, with grace, and with strength.

Perhaps that’s why I want to grasp the rainbow in my hand. Pat’s presence, like a rainbow, added a dimension beyond the ordinary and offered both promise and hope. He left us measures of both.

Julie, Melissa, Maria, Jordan, Mrs. Pedro, Jeff, Andy, Mike, Cathy, thank you for sharing Pat with us; we share your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Condolence: We are just returning from Pat's memorial service and are reflecting on Pat and his family and friends. As a Notre Dame Law '84 classmate, Pat was one of our dearest and most favorite friends and we have many fond memories of time spent with him and also with Julie, Melissa and Maria. Julie's selfless devotion to caring for Pat shows us how strong we can be in the face of adversity. The love she and the girls had for Pat knew no bounds, even when tested in the most heartbreaking circumstances. The memorial service spoke so poignantly of Pat's spirit in life and in facing death. Our deepest sympathy to Pat's family. We know that his spirit lives on and he is at our side as we continue this human journey in his physical absence.
Love,

Condolence: Like so many others in our class at Bucknell, I count Pat among the very best people that I met there. I learned much from him about living life with love, integrity, patience, humor, and forgiveness. I will always be grateful for his place in my life.

Condolence: I remember Patrick as an eager participant and student in one of the early Leadership Greater Syracuse year-long programs. After graduation Patrick picked up so many leadership positions in the communitythat he made the word "Leadership" an honored name. He left a great legacy for citizens to do as he did. He will be missed. His family must be proud of all his accomplishments.
