Obituary for Peter Rinella

Peter Rinella
Peter Rinella III, 63, died at his home on Sunday, June 26, 2016. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, he was the son of the late Peter and Marguerite Rinella Jr.
He worked as a safety manager at Swift Transportation in North Syracuse since 1997. Peter graduated from Cicero High School and attended Ithaca College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1974.
Peter was a man of few words, except when watching SU sports. He blended in to the crowd and noise of the world, but if you paid attention to him, you were rewarded by his intelligence, humor, and strong moral dignity. His voice spoke in quietness. By not drawing attention to himself, he attained prominence among his family, friends, and coworkers. He delighted in the simple elegance and beauty of life, such as reading, gardening, cooking, and being with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed playing lacrosse. He loved being a partner to his wife, Barb Anne.
Peter is survived by his wife, Barbara Balian Rinella; a sister, Kathy Oliver, of Cicero, N.Y.; his son, Brian Rinella, of Canton, Mass.; his daughter, Erin Holland, of Savannah, Ga.; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Rinella.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 30 at noon at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. Calling hours are 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Peter’s name to the Syracuse location of the American Heart Association.
