Al was one of the first people I met after moving to CNY in 1984. We hit it off right away and I went to work with him doing carpentry and roofing. I remember going out with him on his trap line one morning before work and seeing him take mink, beaver, and fox. I took my first deer hunting with him. I also went along once with Al and his uncle Ferd coon hunting. It was an experience- hiking by moonlight, listening to the dogs on the trail and finally treeing the game. My contribution was to climb a tree in the dark to get a dead one that did not fall! Good memories. Al had health problems even then and carried on doing hard work without complaining.
I had not talked to Al for years but happened to call in late August to get advice on evicting bats from my attic. Of course he knew exactly what to do. He still loved his work with wildlife, and said being able to go bear hunting in October with Jason was all he asked from the doctor. To actually take a bear on that last trip was more than hoped for, and it was really good to hear that happened for you, Al. Glad we talked one last time. Goodbye old buddy.
