Carleton Frederick  Masten
Carleton F. Masten, 87, of Jamesville passed away Thursday. He was the son of Carleton Osborn Masten and Charlotte Horlacher Masten
He lived in New Hampshire and graduated from the State University of New York in Buffalo and attended Union College in Schenectady, NY.
He was employed by General Electric Company for 38 years, starting in the Large Motor Division in Schenectady and then transferred to Electronics and Radar Division in Syracuse. He was assigned to a radar site in Padua, Italy and returned to Syracuse to become Marketing Project Manager of the Space Surveillance Programs and traveled extensively throughout the world for General Electric.
He is a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War teaching Electronics in Huntsville, AL.
He was married to JoAnne Nielsen until 1987. He married his second wife, Patricia Worden Masten in 1991. They have enjoyed their families and friends and have been active in the community.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Patricia Worden Masten; two sons, Mark (Roopa) of Playa Vista, CA, and Scott (Andrea) Masten of Manlius, NY; three stepsons, David (Kathy) of Pompey, Mark (Mary) of Ashburn, VA; and Andrew (Donna) Worden of DeWitt, NY; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Alexander and Nicole Masten, Whitney, Stephanie, Sarah Matthew Elizabeth Worden.
Carl and his wife Pat have enjoyed a wonderful life together. They have traveled extensively both abroad and the United States and Canada. One of their greatest pleasures was taking the grandchildren on trips in their RV. They made sure these trips were both educational and fun.
He was an avid boater and from the time he was a young man, always had a boat and spent many enjoyable hours on the water from May to October. He shared this enthusiasm with his sons, stepsons, and grandchildren.
He served on the DeWitt Planning Board for seven years and was a member of the DeWitt 9/11 Memorial Committee. He was active with the North Syracuse Baptist Church and served as an assistant leader of the Christian Brigade for Boys ages 9 to 12.
When he moved to DeWitt in 1991, he joined the DeWitt Community Church and has served this church faithfully on many projects and served as a member of the Property Management Committee for many years.
His primary interest throughout his entire life, was his family and friends who will miss his love, friendship, cheerful sense of humor and gentlemanly manner.
A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Nottingham Senior Living Center on 1301 Nottingham Rd. Jamesville, NY 13078. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Syracuse Oasis, 6333 State Route 298, East Syracuse, NY 13057 or the Syracuse Salvation Army 749 S. Warren Street, 677 South Salina Street (mail), Syracuse, NY 13202 in memory of Carleton Masten.
