Dennis L. Bogin, Ph.D., 70, passed away peacefully at Upstate Medical Center after a brief illness on March 9, 2017.
Dr. Bogin was a practicing Clinical Psychologist for 40 years. He trained at Syracuse University and SUNY Upstate Medical University. He was a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Upstate Medical University where he taught, supervised trainees and saw patients since 1980. Over a long and distinguished career, he helped train generations of psychology interns and psychiatry residents as well as nurses and social workers. He had previously held positions as Clinical Supervisor of Psychological Services at Fairmount Children’s Center and as Director of Psychology Training at the Syracuse VA. He maintained full-time practices in both Syracuse and Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He had a longstanding interest in ethical issues related to the practice of psychology, had been Chair of the Central NY Psychological Association (CNYPA) Ethics Committee and was a long-term member of the New York State Psychological Association’s Committee on Ethical Practice.
A deep and integrative thinker, he was ever generous with his time and knowledge and always welcomed discussion about theory, philosophy, compassionate patient care and music. For his accomplishments in the field of professional psychology, he was awarded the CNYPA 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award. Reading, listening to music, and playing his guitar were his passions.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon Bogin; his daughter, Renee Bogin Curtis (Kyle); two adored granddaughters, Brianna and Melia of Portland, OR; sisters, Sharon Jane Bogin of Nashua, NH and Lauren Antonnuci (Val) of Huntington, NY.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Rose Bogin Levine and Herman Bogin.
A special thank you during his final days for the loving and supportive care during his hospital stay to his sister, Sharon and to his sister-in-law, Karen Beer, and to his dear friend and colleague, Dr. Ronald Saletsky.
Family, friends and patients are invited to calling hours on Monday, March 13 from 4-6 pm at the Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.
