Nancy E. Lawson, 95, of Newport News, VA, formerly of Syracuse, NY, entered into rest on Sunday, March 19, 2017.
Born in Norwich, NY on June 5, 1921, Nancy was the daughter of Onofrio and Margaret Favorito. She was a graduate of Norwich High School. She married Earl F. Lawson, a government employee of Canastota, NY. She spent 23 years traveling with her husband across the country and abroad in Aviano, Italy. Nancy was a Red Cross swimming instructor in Italy, as well as assisting with group tours for American travelers. She became an assistant manager of the Stationary Department for JCPenney’s in Hampton, VA. After her husband’s retirement, she moved to Syracuse, NY and worked as a bookkeeper for Friendly’s before retiring in 1990.
She was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minoa, NY and part of “Connections”, a knitting ministry. After retiring, she became a Bridge instructor through the town of Minoa. Her interests included a love for cooking and sharing authentic Italian meals. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with family and special friends. She will be loved and remembered by all for her capacity to forgive.
She is predeceased by her husband, Earl in 1997; brother, Thomas Favorito; sisters, Marion Favalion, Joanna Fowler, Rosemary Loftus; and loving daughter, Eileen Balch from Virginia Beach.
Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Moore of Jacksonville, FL, Linda Lawson of Hampton, VA; sister, Margaret Cavelos of North Syracuse, NY; grandchildren, Alecia Moore of Syracuse, Elizabeth Daniels of Korea, Lianne Moore of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren, Braden and Chase; and numerous nieces and nephews she was very close to.
Calling hours will be Saturday, March 25 from 9:00 to 10:30 at St. Mary’s Church, 401 North Main St., Minoa. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow calling hours on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Minoa.
