If there had been lawnmower races in our little town, Dorothy would have been a feared contender. As a former Schepps lane neighbor of Dorothy's, I often witnessed her wizzing across her lawn in record time, riding her old red mower. The Lawn was always mowed in record time and somehow always looked great! However, she had very little patience for those of us who were not as skilled an operator of that old red machine, as she was.
The story goes like this. After having knee surgery, Dorothy needed someone to mow her lawn, so she called and asked if I could help, I said, "I'll try". Knowing this wasn't going to be easy, I asked my daughter to come with me, thinking she would be able to operate the mower if I couldn't. We both failed to drive the machine in a manner acceptable to Dorothy. Finally Dorothy, who was reaching rage level, said, "STOP before you brake my lawn mower." She thenhopped on the machine, showing us how to do it right and proceded to mow her entire lawn. Somehow, no damage was done to her knee, Suffice it to say, Dot was not your ordinary woman!
