Obituary for Arthur Mapstone

Arthur E. Mapstone, 85, of Manlius died on June 30th at Loretto. He was born in Syracuse, the son of the late Lynn and Emma Williams Mapstone. He graduated from Fabius-Pompey High School. He began his career as a dairy farmer in a partnership with his brother L. Robert Mapstone. Following that partnership he farmed with his son Richard. Arthur was a dairy farmer who loved the animals, hard work and the land. He especially loved going to the woods. He served on the ASCS for Onondaga County and was a former president. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manlius where he met his first wife, Alice Mae Seibert who predeceased him in 1987. He is predeceased by his brother, L. Robert Mapstone.

He had a strong Christian faith, traditional values and cared about his family and neighbors. He needed little to make him happy, nothing extravagant, just hard work and family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Barber Mapstone; two daughters, Susan (Rex) Vosburg and Barbara (Joseph) Papini; son, Richard (Barbara) Mapstone; seven grandchildren, Kate and Brett Vosburg, Sarah, Emily and Mary Papini, Andrea and Maximus Mapstone; five step-children, Virginia Eagan, Stephen Barber, Vickie Enders, Martha Ryan and Jeffrey Barber; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, July 6th at Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Rd., Manlius. The funeral will be 11:00 am Friday, July 7th at the First Baptist Church of Manlius, 408 Pleasant St., Manlius. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens in DeWitt.

Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Manlius, 408 Pleasant St., Manlius, NY 13104
