The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ruth Engel can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Ruth E. Engel

Ruth E. Engel
Ruth E. Engel, 95, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at Crouse Hospital. Born in Wildwood Crest, NJ, she was the daughter of Harry and Katherine Stokes. She earned her degree in nursing from Temple University and served as a naval nurse in WWII. She then worked for 30 years as an RN at Onondaga County War Memorial. Ruth also was a member of Eastern Star and Home Bureau.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Engel.
Surviving are daughters, Catherine (Michael) Townsend of Clinton, NY, Elizabeth Peppone of Syracuse, NY, Ruth A. Engel of Prattsburg, NY, Barbara Kenney of Laurel Springs, NJ; sons, Robert Engel Jr. of Fayetteville, NY, Arthur Engel II of Naperville, IL; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A calling hour will be Friday, December 8th from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 11am. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
