Obituary for Barbara Jean (Oropallo) Swanberry

Barbara Jean (Oropallo) Swanberry, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Feb 6th. Barb was born and lived her life in Syracuse. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Margaret Oropallo.
Barb graduated from the Convent School and attended Lemoyne College. After college Barb went to work for Niagara Mohawk before her marriage to John J. Swanberry.
Barb, always active in various clubs and church groups, enjoyed helping others, most notably as part of the Altar and Rosary Society (past president) at Holy Cross Church, as a Meals on Wheels driver, with bread sales for the Jail Ministry of Syracuse and as a cookie baker for the Samaritan Center.
In addition to her volunteer work, Barb enjoyed reading, playing golf, parties with her club girls, and participating in the Syracuse St. Patrick’s Day Parade with the Irish potato ladies for 29 years.
Barb is survived by her brother Carl M. Oropallo of Syracuse; four daughters, Meg (Matt) Lumia, Marianne (Tony) Hanley, Cathryn Swanberry, Barb (Tim) Conley; and ten wonderful grandchildren, Madeline, Jack, Patrick, Erin, Tori, Livy, Michael, Elizabeth, Ian and Emily.
Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee St., DeWitt NY 13214. A funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barb’s honor to Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee St., DeWitt, NY 13214.
