Obituary for George S. Deeb

George S. Deeb
George S. Deeb, 91, of East Syracuse, New York passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 1st, 2018, at Upstate Medical Center. George was a proud and loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather.

George was born March 1st, 1927 in Waterville, Maine to Sam and Lottie Deeb. He was active at St. Joseph’s Maronite Church in Waterville, and enjoyed celebrating his Lebanese heritage. He left school at age 17 to serve in the US Navy as a medic, later returning to Maine to complete his GED. He graduated from Colby College and went on to graduate from Georgetown University with a Masters in Biochemistry. He worked at Strasenburgh Pharmaceutical in Rochester and then moved to East Syracuse working for Bristol Myers Squib for 30 years as a Biochemist developing life-saving chemotherapy drugs. He co-authored many research articles.

George was a singer, participating as a cantor and choir member for many years at St. Mary’s Church in Minoa, and most recently at St. Ann’s in Manlius. George and Jean, his loving wife of 58 years, were passionate and committed to service in their church and community. Jean and George’s children and grandchildren will continue that legacy.

George was a warm, welcoming soul who had a grand sense of humor, an infectious laugh and a zest for life. By example, he taught courage, faith, perseverance, and love of family. George found joy in life’s simple pleasures, relishing each moment.

A heartfelt thank you to the nurses, physicians, and staff at Upstate Medical Center for their loving care and support.

George is survived by his wife Jean, son Sam (Kathleen) Deeb of East Syracuse, daughter Rosemarie (John) Masetta of Irving, Texas, sister Marie F. Deeb of Waterville, Maine, his loving grandchildren, Brittany and Ryan Masetta, Anne Marie and Mary Kate Deeb, and cousins. George is predeceased by his parents, Sam and Lottie Deeb.
