Obituary for Joost Brasz

Joost J. Brasz, 70, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, September 2 at Crouse Hospital after a short illness. He was born May 20, 1945 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the son of Joop J. Brasz and Wilhelmina Brasz-Verel.
Joost grew up in Hilversum. He got his master’s degree in Physics from Amsterdam Free University (1963) and his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Eindhoven Technical University (1977). He worked at TNO, Hengelo from 1975-1980. He met his future wife, Ulla, in Austria in 1972. They got married in 1976 and moved from Holland to the USA in March of 1980. Joost worked as an Aero-Thermo Manager/Engineering Fellow for Carrier Corporation until July 2008. Since then he has worked as a Development Engineer for Danfoss Turbocor. While working for these companies, Joost was awarded many patents.
Joost was also an accomplished piano player. He was a member of the Century Club and of La Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (Sous-Commanderie de Central New York). He enjoyed playing and traveling together with his sons and their families, spending many summers together in Sweden, and he was a proud farfar to his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ulla; sons, Lars (Shaena) of Fayetteville, NY, Nils (Jessica) of Seattle, WA and Frederik of Cambridge, MA; grandsons, Johan and Magnus of Fayetteville; brother, Bert (Henny) of Hoorn, the Netherlands; sisters, Marjolijn Brasz (Pieter v. d. Kerkhoff) of Voorburg, the Netherlands and Petra Brasz of Alkmaar, the Netherlands; nieces and nephews in the Netherlands, as well as brother-in-law Lars-Erik (Susanne) Jansson of Norrköping, Sweden and nieces and nephews in Sweden and Germany.
Calling hours will be 2 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, September 6, with a funeral service to follow at 5 pm at the Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St, Fayetteville.
