It was no secret in the neghborhood that Jim was always eager to get out and be a part of any project that was going on. He never let you off the hook if you started a yard project and didn't ask him for help. One day a few years ago my wife called in a panic as Jim and another neighbor came over and asked to borrow our ladder. This was not just any ladder....it was a 36 foot ladder that was extremely heavy. They both proceeded to carry that thing over to Jim's house and set it up on the steepest corner of Jim's house so they could climb up and clean out the gutter. By the time I had a chance to race home out of conern for them trying to climb this thing they had already cleaned those gutters and were carrying that ladder back. He never ceased to amaze me and he refused to give in to any potential physical limitation for getting work done. Even as a grown man, I found myself in awe of this charcter trait and I will forever cherish this and many other memories that he gave us.
