Obituary for Carol Allen

Carol Allen
Carol J Allen of Jamesville, NY passed away suddenly while watering her flowers at her summer home on the St. Lawrence River on May 30, 2016. She was 76.

Carol was born in Glens Falls, NY to Bernard and Jane (Moss) Allen. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1963 with a degree in political science and was an avid sports fan, whose "blood ran Orange." She began her career at the New York State Department of Labor and later served as Director of Quality Assurance for the New York State Department of Developmental Disabilities before retiring after 31 years.

Carol was well known for her work with the Golden Retriever Rescue, serving as the national chair of the organization for over 13 years. Locally, she served as president of the Golden Retriever Club of Central New York and Golden Retriever Rescue of CNY. She was also a member of the Syracuse Obedience Training Club.

Carol is survived by her longtime partner in life and in rescue, Sallie Lennox of Jamesville, NY; her 5 beloved golden retrievers; her sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Allen of Queensbury, NY; her niece, Kimberly (Mike) Nelson of Queensbury, NY; her nephew, Scott (Lynn) Allen of Queensbury, NY; and her great nephew and niece, Travis and Madeline Nelson of Queensbury, NY. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Robert of Queensbury, NY.

Throughout her life, Carol exemplified a deep commitment to the welfare of others and gave her all to the causes she cared about. Her life is celebrated and her death mourned by her many devoted friends, family, and colleagues, especially her lifelong friend, Donna Herlihy and the members of the "Covewood group." She was, no doubt, greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by the hundreds of golden retrievers whose lives she had touched.

Calling hours will be held at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel at 7191 East Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY 13066 on Thursday, July 14 from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a celebration of her life. At the request of the family, there will be no flowers. Donations may be made in Carol's memory to the Golden Retriever Rescue of Central New York, PO Box 735, Jamesville, NY 13078 (http://www.grrcny.org/donations.html) or to the Golden Retriever Foundation April Fund, PO Box 3462, Omaha, NE 68103 (http://www.goldenretrieverfoundation.org/donate.html).
