The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Carol Allen can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence From: Nancy Benjamin
Condolence: Dearest Carol, Needless to say, we are all still in shock at your sudden departure from this earth. You have meant so much to so many over the years. I am especially grateful for your friendship and leadership during the 1980s when we were looking for a social group to hang with. You and Sallie opened the doors to your home for many parties and get togethers; you spearheaded many fun Columbus Day weekends at Covewood at Big Moose Lake; you were a key player on our softball and basketball teams over the years. I really enjoyed our political conversations and agreeing to disagree sometimes. You certainly had the courage of your convictions! And we both loved and admired Eleanor Roosevelt and John Kennedy. And of course we both loved our dogs and I am so in awe of all you did for the Golden Girls and Boys. Gradually, we just kept in touch with birthday and Christmas cards, which I always enjoyed. It was great to spend time together with you, Jean, Donna, and Kathy in February in St. Augustine this past winter. You a lion-hearted, fierce, compassionate friend who will be sorely missed. Much love to family and friends, Nancy

Condolence: My thoughts and prayers are with Carol's family and friends. I knew Carol through SOTC and her love of" Goldens". What a blessing it was for so many" Goldens" that she was there to rescue them and love them. She will be greatly missed and it was a privilege to have shared that love of "Goldens" with her.

Condolence: I was very saddened to hear of Carols passing. She was a good, caring, and thoughtful person. She hired me while I was living in the Rochester area and gave me the opportunity to continue my career in Syracuse. I have a good life here, and owe much of that to her initial generosity and patience. Thank you Carol. Rest in peace.

Condolence: It was only last Monday that I was asking former OMRD colleagues if they had ever heard from Carol Allen. I was shocked this morning to read that she had passed away. Carol and I were close colleagues at OMRDD and I felt honored to have known her and watched her caring and professional support of both consumers and staff. Much of what was good in the area of vocational training for consumers was a lasting testament to her continuing influence and efforts. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family and friends. May she rest in peace. Len and Lillian Slosberg

Condolence: My thoughts are with Carol’s many friends and family at this time. I had the good fortune to work with Carol at the old Developmental Center and in the community and she was always a particularly caring person for the needs of our residents and staff. We also shared the love of Goldens and her great sense of humor especially in times of administrative “issues.”
Good to know someone so loving is now looking after the Goldens and, I’m sure, all animals in the Summerland!
