Obituary for Maurice J. Sheedy

Maurice “Moe” J. Sheedy, 71, of Minoa, died Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Moe was the son of Dr. John V. and Marion Sheedy, attended grade school at Blessed Sacrament and graduated CBA in 1963. He attended Miami University and studied Marine Biology, and graduated from Niagara University in 1967 with a BA in sociology. Moe then served in the US Army from 1968-70 in Korea. He earned a masters in social work from Syracuse University in 1972. Moe retired in 2002 from the New York State Division of Parole. He served as an adjunct professor of criminology at Columbia College. He was also an admissions counselor for chemical dependency at Crouse Hospital. Moe had been on the advisory board for the Syracuse Salvation Army. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and served on the Town of Manlius Republican Committee. Moe was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Diane Guyette, three sons– Brien (Dana) of Walla Walla, WA, Dennis (Carey) of Bridgeport, and Patrick of Oceanside, California; 4 brothers- Tom of New Jersey, John of West Virginia, Michael of Maryland, and Mark of Texas; 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will start at 9:15 am Saturday from the R.H. Schepp & Son Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, Minoa. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fayetteville. Calling hours will be 4-7 pm Friday at the funeral home, 6530 Schepp’s Corner’s Road, Minoa. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
