My brother and I were just a couple of kids when we decided to start our printing business, Speedway Press, in 1967. Fortunate for us, we found Glundal Color early on. Without exaggeration, Leif Glundal was a huge contributor to our success for over 35 years. I think he saw in us younger versions of himself - eager, striving young entrepreneurs, working tirelessly, (and aimlessly at first!) to achieve the improbable.
Throughout our business relationship, no matter what the degree of difficulty or ridiculous turnaround time we requested, Leif Glundal and his employees never once failed to deliver our color separations on time - and meticulously prepared.
Leif Glundal truly understood the concept of enduring business relationships - in order for him to be successful meant that his customers had to be successful. I believe he practiced that throughout his life.
More important, we became good friends with Leif and his wife, Barbara. Every trip to their business at 6700 Joy Road included an invitation into Leif's personal office and a long conversation about businesses and families. I always admired his ambition and optimism and always left there feeling better than when I arrived.
I am very saddened by Leif's passing but I hold many fond memories of him and Barbara, and will always remember them among a handful of people who really did make a difference - in both our business and our lives.
